FAQ — mobile self storage at Faringdon Removals
Every common question answered with a literal number wherever possible. If yours isn’t here, email bookings@faringdonremovals.co.uk.
Pricing
How much does mobile self storage cost?
£10/week for a 35cuft (1m³) pod, £20/week for a 125cuft pod, £30/week for a 250cuft pod. Plus a one-off £99 collection fee (Basic — you load) or £98 to £198 (Premium — we load, scaled by pod size). All prices include VAT.
What is the minimum term?
4 weeks. After that, cancel any time and we refund whole unused weeks of the current 4-week cycle.
Are there any hidden fees?
No. The collection fee, weekly rent, and (eventually) return delivery fee are the entire cost. No admin fee, no key fee, no deposit, no insurance fee, no fuel surcharge. See the pricing page for the full list of what’s not charged.
Do you charge VAT on top?
No. All prices on this site already include VAT at 20%. £30/week means £30/week.
Pod sizes & what fits
How big is a 250cuft pod?
About the contents of a one-bedroom flat. A double bed, a sofa, a wardrobe, six tea chests of boxes, a fridge-freezer and a dining table all fit comfortably.
How big is a 125cuft pod?
About a studio flat or a bedroom-cleared-out’s worth of stuff. Around 15 tea chest boxes plus a chair and small chest of drawers.
How big is a 35cuft pod?
One cubic metre. About 5–6 tea chest boxes. Suitable for document storage, a few seasonal items, or business overflow.
What can’t I store?
Live things (people, animals, plants), perishable food, cash, jewellery, passports, share certificates, firearms, illegal substances, flammable/explosive/toxic materials (paint, fuel, gas canisters), wet or mouldy items, counterfeit or stolen goods. See Terms section 5 for the full list.
Can I book multiple pods?
Yes — multiple pods can be loaded on the same trailer day if total volume is up to 250cuft (e.g. 2× 125cuft or 5× 35cuft). For more than 250cuft, you’ll need a second trailer day (Basic) or a Premium booking which has higher per-trip volume capacity.
Access, security, insurance
Will my driveway accommodate the trailer?
Probably yes. The trailer occupies about 8m × 3m, no bigger than a transit van plus a couple of metres. Most driveways work. If you’re at the end of a single-track lane with poor access, mention it in the booking notes and we’ll confirm before the day.
Is my stuff insured?
Yes. £5,000 of cover per pod is included by default, against fire, theft and damage. Higher value cover available on request — email bookings@faringdonremovals.co.uk with the value you need.
How secure is your depot?
Dry, alarmed (24/7 monitored intruder alarm via UK ARC), CCTV-monitored across the full site, 30-day footage retention. No public access — we’re not a self-access warehouse.
Can I access my pod during storage?
Yes — book a return delivery to bring the pod to your driveway any time. £99 (Basic) or £98–£198 (Premium). We can collect the pod back to depot the same day if you only need a few items.
Comparison to alternatives
How does this compare to Big Yellow / Safestore?
Big Yellow / Safestore in Oxford typically charge £35–£55/week for a 25–35sqft drive-up warehouse unit, plus van hire (~£80–£120) to fill it. We charge £30/week for an equivalent-volume 250cuft pod plus £99 collection — and we bring it to your door. Detailed numbers on the comparison page.
How does this compare to a man with a van?
“Man with a van” headline pricing is usually cheaper but typically lacks goods-in-storage insurance, formal premises, alarmed/CCTV depot, business continuity, or proper contract. The price gap reflects the risk gap. See full comparison.
How does this compare to Lovespace / by-the-box?
By-the-box services like Lovespace are great if you have fewer than ~20 boxes and no furniture. For anything bigger, per-box maths gets expensive quickly. See full comparison.
Cancellation & refunds
Can I cancel a booking before delivery?
Yes. Cancel 48+ hours before delivery for a full refund. Inside 48 hours, the collection fee is non-refundable but rent is refundable. See refunds policy.
How do refunds work on cancellation?
We refund whole unused weeks remaining in your current 4-week cycle (£10/£20/£30 per whole week depending on pod size). Partial weeks aren’t refunded. Plan your return delivery date accordingly to maximise the refund.
What if my card payment fails?
We retry three times over 14 days and email you a link to update the card. After three failed attempts the account moves to “on hold” — pod stays at the depot, secure. Depot fees of £5/day begin if non-payment continues; after 90 days the pod contents may be sold under the Storage Act 1986 to recover unpaid fees.
Special use cases
Can I store between house exchange and completion?
Yes — this is the most common use case. Book a 250cuft pod for delivery on the day you have to be out, store for 4 weeks minimum, request return delivery to your new address when ready. See house-move storage page.
Can students use this for the summer vacation?
Yes — 35cuft pod (£10/week + £99 collection) covers a typical student room. Total for the long vac is approximately £230–£260. Cheaper and more practical than shipping items home. See student storage page.
Can my business use this?
Yes. Business archive storage, stock overflow, seasonal kit — all standard use cases. We can invoice rather than card-on-file if needed; email bookings@faringdonremovals.co.uk to set up. See business storage page.
Can military / RAF families use this between postings?
Yes. Long-stay storage with no fixed end date is standard for postings — book the pod, no commitment, cancel anytime. RAF Brize Norton and RAF Benson personnel use this regularly.
