House move storage. When you’ve exchanged on the new place but it isn’t ready yet.
If you’re between exchange and completion, selling before buying, or staging an empty house for viewings, Faringdon Removals delivers a 250cuft storage pod to your driveway for £30 per week plus a one-off £99 collection. Load the whole house in a day. We store it dry, alarmed and insured at our Oxfordshire depot. Return it when your new place is ready.
The gap nobody warns you about
You’ve exchanged. The buyers of your house want in next Friday. The sellers of your new house are dragging their chain by three weeks. Or you’ve decided to sell first and rent for a few months while you find the right next place. Or your estate agent has told you the truth: an empty, decluttered house sells for more, and faster.
Suddenly you need somewhere to put a four-bedroom house full of furniture. Not “a few boxes.” The whole lot. Wardrobes, sofas, the kitchen table, the kids’ beds, the lawnmower, the loft.
Renting a self-storage warehouse unit means you also need to rent a Luton van, drive it through Oxford or Swindon traffic twice, lift everything twice, queue for a trolley, and sign a contract you can’t easily get out of. On moving day. Mobile self storage solves the gap without any of that.
How it works for a house move
- Pod arrives 9am on your driveway in OX, SN, GL, or any postcode within 30 miles of SN7 7SS.
- You load through the day. Pick a Saturday, get the family on it, or hire two of our porters for the Premium service if you’d rather have someone else lift it.
- 6pm we collect the pod and take it to our Faringdon depot. Dry, alarmed, CCTV-monitored, insured.
- When the new house is ready, log in, pick a delivery date, we bring it back.
You never drive a hire van. You never lift anything twice. You never queue for a trolley.
What size pod for a house move
| Pod | Holds | Weekly rent |
|---|---|---|
| 250cuft | 1-bed flat / contents of a 2-3 bed house with sensible packing | £30/week |
| 250cuft × 2 | Larger 4-5 bed house, garage, workshop | £60/week |
Worked example: 12-week chain delay
Average gap between exchange and completion when a chain stalls: 8 to 14 weeks. Let’s use 12.
| Pod delivered + collected (Basic, you load) | £99 |
| 12 weeks storage rent @ £30 | £360 |
| Return delivery to new house | £99 |
| Total for 12 weeks | £558 |
Compare with a typical Oxford or Swindon warehouse unit: £45/week × 12 + Luton hire £180 × 2 + your time driving twice. You’d be over £900 before fuel.
House-move questions
What if completion slips by another month. Can I extend?
Yes, automatically. Storage renews every 4 weeks until you tell us you want the pod back. No new contract, no extension fee, just £30/week per pod.
We’re selling and want to stage the house empty for viewings. Same deal?
Exactly the same product. Lots of customers do this. Empty house photos sell faster. Average stay for staging customers is 6 to 10 weeks.
What if I find the new house mid-storage and need it back fast?
Two weeks’ notice is plenty. We have one delivery slot per day. Pick any date from your customer account. Often we can do next-day if the calendar allows.
Is the pod weatherproof and dry?
Yes. Solid timber-and-steel construction, sealed, stored under cover at our Faringdon depot. We use the same pods for piano storage at our sister site, so they’re built for fragile contents.
My new house is outside the 30-mile radius. Can you still deliver back?
Yes, with a delivery surcharge based on distance. Pop your new postcode in the booking notes and we’ll quote it precisely.
