Renovation storage in Oxfordshire. Clear the rooms, let the builders work.
Mid-renovation, half-extension, full-house refit? Faringdon Removals delivers 250cuft storage pods to your driveway across Oxfordshire for £30 per week per pod, plus £99 Basic or £198 Premium collection. With Premium, our crew loads while you’re at work. Pods stay dry, alarmed and insured at our depot until the dust settles.
The renovation scenario
The builders start Monday. They need the lounge cleared by Sunday night, then the kitchen by week three, then the bedrooms when the second-fix electrics start. Meanwhile you still live in the house, still go to work, and have a four-month build window where there’s nowhere to put a three-piece sofa, a dining table, six bookcases and the kids’ wardrobes.
Renting a self-storage unit in Oxford or Swindon means hiring a van every time a new room gets cleared, which means three or four hire-van weekends. Or asking the builders to “just work around it”, which costs you a fortune in delay.
A mobile pod sits on your driveway, gets loaded as each room is cleared (or relocated to our depot between phases), and returns when the project is done.
How it works for a renovation
Basic service (£99 collection)
- Pod arrives 9am Saturday. Sits on your drive.
- You and a couple of mates load the lounge contents through the day.
- 6pm we collect, pod goes to our Faringdon depot. Dry, alarmed, CCTV.
- Next phase of the build, book another pod, repeat.
Premium service (£198 collection, our crew load)
- Pod and our 2-person crew arrive in the morning.
- You point at what needs to go. Crew wraps, lifts, loads.
- Pod and crew leave by lunchtime. You stay at work.
- Same secure depot, same calendar of return delivery.
Premium is the one most renovators choose. The reno itself is enough hassle without spending a Saturday wrapping bookcases.
What size and how many pods
| Project | Recommended | Weekly rent |
|---|---|---|
| Single-room refit (kitchen, lounge) | 1 × 250cuft pod | £30/week |
| Two-storey extension, rooms cleared in phases | 2 × 250cuft pods | £60/week |
| Whole-house gut renovation | 3-4 × 250cuft pods | £90-£120/week |
Worked example: 6-month full house reno
26 weeks (a generous schedule for a kitchen extension + rewire + plaster + redecorate of a 3-bed semi).
| Premium collection (crew loads everything 1 day) | £198 |
| 26 weeks rent @ £30 (1 × 250cuft) | £780 |
| Subtotal (you do final unload) | £978 |
| Premium return delivery (crew unloads) | £198 |
| All-in 6-month full-furniture stowage | £1,176 |
Compare a self-storage warehouse for 6 months: typically £45-55/week for an equivalent unit, plus £200+ in van hire to transfer in and out. You’d be at £1,500+ and you’d have spent two Saturdays driving a Luton. The Basic version (you load) of the same 6-month example: £978 all-in.
Renovation questions
My builder doesn’t want a pod in front of the skip. Where does it go?
The pod takes about 8m × 3m. Driveways are the obvious spot. If access is tight, we drop the pod at a neighbour’s drive or a nearby private car park, or schedule it for a Saturday when the skip is gone. We’ll work it out on the booking call.
Can I get to my stuff mid-renovation if I forgot something?
Yes, by appointment at the depot. Bring ID, 48hrs notice, free for one visit, £30 for additional access trips. Most renovators never need this. You usually pack what you need into the house first.
We’re moving out for the build. Can the pod come straight to the rental?
Yes, pod goes to your driveway, then we return it to the rental address (or anywhere else within 30 miles). When the build is done, we deliver it to the finished house.
What about white goods. Do they go in the pod or do I bin them?
They go in fine. Disconnect, drain, secure the doors with tape. We wrap them on Premium. Most renos store the existing fridge/washer/dryer and reinstate after.
Builder needs the rooms cleared in 2 days’ notice. Can you do that?
Often yes for Premium (one of two daily slots usually free in the next 48hrs). Basic depends on trailer availability. Enter your postcode and the live calendar shows what’s possible.
